DescriptionMan, woman and dog on bench at side of two-story clapboard house with stone foundation, louvered shutters and porch. Man is standing behind bench wearing straw hat and suspenders. Woman wears straw hat and apron. Porch has three trellises with flowering vines, hanging plants, a wood chair and an umbrella. A well is near cellar door at rear left corner of house. Behind house on left is a barn and two small sheds. A vine covered arbor is front of shed on left, which is possibly an outhouse. Large trees on left and one on right include pine.

In 1880, he was working in a bolt factory in Bristol. The Jenny Noble mentioned in a note on the back of the photograph may be John's daughter Jane.
