DescriptionWoman teacher sits at a desk facing a class of young men wearing suits. Students and teacher have notebooks, books and paper. Some are writing. An inkwell is on the teacher's desk and a wicker wastebasket is under it. Two blackboards are on the wall. One is inscribed: "deer / thief / conscience / princess / tree / senator / jury." Electric light bulbs with shades hang from the ceiling on wires.
NotesSubject Note: The Hillyer Institute was the Educational Department of the Hartford YMCA. The YMCA was located at 315-323 Pearl Street, at the corner of Jewell Street.
