DescriptionA woman, two men, a girl, a boy and a dog in front of a two-story cross-gabled house. One of the men is on a horse, holding a rifle or shotgun. In the background, a third man is sitting in a sulky hitched to a horse. The house has an open porch along two sides and additions at the back connecting with a barn. Additional outbuildings are to the left. At the far left is a very small house. A fence surrounds the side yard. Several well-pruned trees are probably fruit trees, possibly apple trees. The drive in the foreground is muddy and rutted.
