DescriptionMan's breeches of black silk satin, completely lined with plain-woven, beige linen. The breeches have a broad (11 3/4-inch) fall, which buttons at the corners and in the center along the bottom of the waistband. The waistband is 3 3/4 inches wide at center front and fastens with two self-covered (one is now replaced) buttons (3/4-inch diameter). The breeches are smooth in front and gathered in the back into the waistband. The waistband and center back seam are inserted with a gusset of linen. Eyelets worked in the waistband would be laced to adjust the fit. The legs are splayed; the length is to the top of the calf. The side seams are open for about four inches and fasten with four self-covered buttons (1/2-inch diameter). The knee band is narrow, 3/4 inch wide; the buckle is missing. There is a small pocket set below the proper right side of the waistband.
