DescriptionView across a rocky field towards the Connecticut River. A man in a top hat, possibly a self-portrait of the artist sketching, stands in the foreground. In the middle ground sailing vessels are on the Connecticut River. The foundation of the Brainerd house is to the right. The Rev. David Brainerd was a missionary to Native Americans, first in New York State and later in New Jersey.
