DescriptionView of Newgate Prison in Granby. The cluster of buildings sit upon Copper Hill. In the 1830s, the cavern was being worked as a copper mine by the Phoenix Mining Company. Mountains are in the distance. In the foreground a man in a top hat is sketching, probably a self-portrait of the artist.
