DescriptionPieced quilt constructed from a pink glazed worsted, or calamanco, quilted petticoat from the eighteenth century. The quilt is T-shaped and consists of a pieced top, batting, and a backing; these three layers have been hand-stitched together in a quilted pattern. The petticoat was cut in half down the sides and sewn together, top edge to top edge, so that the foliate scroll border quilting appears at the top and bottom of the central panel of the quilt. The rest of the center is filled with diamond grid quilting. Each side of the quilt is pieced in large triangles of pink, dark brown, and pale seafoam green worsted fabrics. The quilting pattern of the sides is of interlocking ovals, filled with parallel diagonal lines. The quilting threads are gold, brown, or blue, depending on the color of the fabric. The quilt backing is gold wool along the sides and brown/white wool/linen (probably) behind the petticoat.

Condition: The quilt has scattered small holes, with the largest at the bottom center. The top edge is frayed. One block on left side has a torn edge at the seam line.
