DescriptionWest view of the Henry Whitfield House in Guilford, also known as the Old Stone House. Barber believed it to be "the oldest house now standing in the United States." Whitfield, a minister of the Church of England, led the first settlers to Guilford in 1640. The house is a two-story dwelling with a massive chimney and a wing at the back. The placement of the windows is irregular. Inscribed: "from Rev. David Baldwin of Guilford, 1833."
