DescriptionView of the central part of Brookfield. Various one and two-story buildings are irregularly spaced along a road that leads directly back into the distance. The Congregational Church is the large church with the spire; the small building in front of it is labeled "Liquor store." On the other side of the Congregational Church is an Episcopal Church with a note "make larger." On the opposite side of the street is the town house. Also labeled are a large "Rock" at the left, several "stone wall[s" and a "Button[wood tree." A tall liberty pole bearing a liberty cap and a weather vane is at the far right, beside a saltbox house. A note at upper left reads "Rev. Thomas Brooks first minister preached above 40 years / town named for him. Lead mine 40 rods south."
