DescriptionView of the central part of Ashford. At the left is the Congregational Church, with horse sheds beside it; the next building is the Academy. At the right, two taverns, or public houses, with prominent signs, face one another on the opposite sides of the main road leading north. The one on the right is labeled "Post Office / Tavern." Details of the two taverns and adjoining buildings appear above the main composition. The walls are labeled "stone" or "stone walls."
