DescriptionTwo large rocky outcroppings with a lower area between them. Three buildings are visible between outcroppings and a large building with an inn sign is at the right. A figure is halfway up the outcropping at the right. The figure in the foreground is probably a self-portrait of the artist sketching. The Mystic River is in the foreground. In 1637 Captain John Mason and his men camped on this site the night before they attacked the Pequot Fort, which was about two miles southwest
