DescriptionRoad and sidewalk construction on State Street, possibly related to Bulkeley Bridge construction. The Connecticut River and a railroad bridge of the Valley Railroad are visible at the foot of State Street. Businesses on the north side of the street include Williams & Carleton, wholesale druggists; and a lodging house. Other signs advertise Williams Cough Remedy and Tulin, Toft & Tulin, sole agents for Heckens Family Flour. Businesses on the south side of the street include P. Garvan, paper and paper stock. A sign in the foreground advises travelers to " Use Grove St."
