DescriptionCoffee mill of sheet iron painted black. There is a relatively square base, raised in a slightly curved way, to meet the body of the mill which is rectangular in shape. There is a handle attached to the left rear corner of the mill, which is for holding the mill steady with one hand while turning the handle to grind the beans with the other. There is a small metal drawer with metal pull loop in the bottom front of the base, which holds the grounds.
The top of the mill is slightly curved, and fits over the rectangular body with a light overhang. There is a lid which lifts up, in the front top, which is where the coffee beans are poured in for grinding. The handle is attached to the top through the top and down into the grinding mechanism. The handle is wooden, bolted to the metal arm.
A round label is affixed to the front of the body. It is red and gold with mostly black lettering: "UNIVERSAL COFFEE MILL/ NO 110/ ONE POUND/ PAT. FEB 14, 1905. / MADE BY/ LANDERS FRARY & CLARK. NEW BRITAIN, CONN., U.S.A."
Label TextNew Britain's Landers, Frary and Clark manufactured all types of household and commercial products, including this coffee mill, which dates to the early twentieth century.
