DescriptionView of a street in South Manchester during a parade celebrating the return of soldiers from World War I. Crowds line both sides of the street while men in uniform march down the middle. In the foreground one woman walks down the sidewalk behind the crowd, carrying a closed umbrella over her shoulder. The three story building on the far side of the street is decorated with patriotic bunting and people watch the parade from its upper windows. Parts of the signs for Connecticut Business College and Packard's Pharmacy are visible on the front of the building. There is also a vertical sign hanging on the side of the building that reads "SODA / CAN[DY]". Street lights and banners line the road far into the distance. There is a church steeple visible down the road, on the right side.
NotesAccording to cataloging worksheet in object file, this photo is from the photo album of Stephen P. Cheney (1903-1968). Also according to the worksheet, "Clifford D. Cheney (1877-1948) was the Marshall of the parade that went from Main Street to Depot Square back to the center and then east of the olf Orford Golf Grounds where there was to be a dinner, but was moved to Cheney Hall due to heavy rains".
