DescriptionHand puppet of Johannes Brahms at age 64 composed of a cloth body and papier-mâché head with painted features (probably using watercolor) including red cheeks and nose, pink lips, and blue eyes. He has long gray hair, bushy eyebrows, and a white beard made of cotton batting, pink painted cloth hands, and arms and legs constructed using cardboard tubing. He wears a white cotton shirt tied at the collar with a black cotton ribbon, a brown wool jacket that closes with three buttons, and brown wool pants with shoes of stiffened cotton. Over his jacket is a red, blue, black, and yellow wool tartan secured at his left shoulder with a metal safety pin. The sleeve that covers the puppeteer's wrist and arm is made of light brown cotton. Probably used with puppet of Clara Schumann (2013.182.15) and puppet of Johannes Brahms at age 20 (2013.182.16) in play, "Johannes Brahms-5 acts from his life."
