DescriptionThe crucified Jesus Christ, a bearded man wearing a loin cloth and nailed to a cross, is adored by five angels. Christ has wounds in his hands, feet, and side and wears a crown of thorns. A piece of paper at the top of the cross is inscribed: "I.N.R.I." The angels have wings and wear robes and cloaks. One angel wears a wreath of flowers. Two angels kneel at the foot of the cross while three appear in the clouds above. The oval frame is surrounded by flowers and fruit, primroses, and grapes.

NotesSource Note: Probably based on an Italian Renaissance source, which the Kelloggs would have known from an engraving. (Finlay 9/12/2001)
