DescriptionA political campaign poster for the presidential and vice-presidential campaign of 1844. Bust-length portaits of the two men, both wearing costs, vests, ties, and shirts, are framed by oval medallions with elaborate borders linked by a shield. The borders are inscribed: "HENRY CLAY." and "THEO. FRELINGHUYSEN." Above the portraits, an eagle stands on a globe of the world inscribed: "AMERICA". Three American flags on staffs are on either side of the globe. Fringed draperies held in place by cords with tassels frame the image. Below the portraits, two emblematic figures representing Agriculture flank a large cornucopia. A sheaf of wheat, ears of corn, pumpkins, bales, sacks, rolled carpets, and bolts of fabric spill from the cornucopia. A woman seated at the right holds a sickle and wheat. She wears a dress and a bonnet. A cow and two sheep are beside her. A man seated on the left holds a whip. He wears a smock and hat. A team of horses is hitched to a plow at his left. A panoramic view of a city, with ships in a harbor, is in the background. A banner at the bottom of the image is inscribed: "PROTECTION TO AMERICAN INDUSTRY."
