DescriptionWhite satin shoes with pointed toes and slender Louis (or "Italian") heel. The tongue is pointed and is crossed by latchets, which would have been held closed by a buckle. One shoe has a buckle, but it is not original to the shoe; it is too large. This buckle is oval-shaped, with a narrow gold inner rim surrounded by large clear paste stones. The shoe is lined with plain-woven linen. The upper is bound with white silk tape. The shoes are straight, but the pattern of wear shows that the shoe with the buckle was worn on the left foot and the other shoe on the right. The continuous leather sole covers the front of the heel.
