DescriptionA young woman is seated in a chair in the interior of a room, apparently a kitchen. A young man stands behind her holding his Scottish cap in his hand. She wears an open blouse over a dress with a separate bodice. He wears a jacket, vest, shirt, tie, and tartan. A spinning wheel is in the right foreground. A flask and a cup or tankard are on a shelf or table in the left background, with an arched door above them, possibly an oven. Two jars are on a large wooden cupboard in the background. An open casement window is at the far right.
