DescriptionEquestrian portrait of a man wearing a military uniform, including a coat with epaulets, a hat with a plume, boots, gloves, and a sword. His rearing horse is equipped with saddle, bridle, and saddle blanket. Two additional officers on horseback are at the right with tents behind them. In the left background stands a group of soldiers with packs and guns with fixed bayonets. In the distance, ranks of troops with flags extend to the horizon.

Technique Note: Simple hand-coloring uses only blue and green. Lithograph is drawn in a rather sketchy style, with the use of considerable tuche in the shadows. (Finlay 3/13/2002)
