DescriptionHalf-length seated portrait of an elderly man wearing a double-breasted coat, vest, shirt, and tie. A sword rests on his left arm. He holds a rolled sheet of paper in his right hand. His right elbow rests on a table. Drapery is in the left background. A column with cords and a tassel are in the right background.
NotesSubject Note: Zachary Taylor was a hero of the Mexican War. He assumed command of the U.S. forces in January 1846 and his troops encamped near Matamoros in the spring of 1846. Taylor became President of the United States in 1849. He died in 1850.
