DescriptionFull-length studio portrait of a young man wearing a military hat and uniform, standing near a chair.
NotesSubject Note: According to information that came with the photo from the CHS library, Charles M. Holmes was a member of the 10th Connecticut Regiment. He was killed at the battle of Darbytown Road, Virginia, on 13 October 1864. He does not, however, appear in the "Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the Army and Navy of the United States During the War of the Rebellion."

Date Note: Dated by when the original was taken, not when the half-tone was done. The original was taken during the Civil War, 1861- 1864. The halftone must date from at least twenty years later. The original on which the halftone was based appears to have been a cased photograph, such as a tintype, daguerreotype, or ambrotype. (Finlay 5/20/2002)
