DescriptionAn airplane with the name "American" on it is on a concrete airfield. Men and women are boarding the plane. A man in uniform and a woman in uniform, probably the flight crew, pose in front of the aircraft. A sign reads "ONLY EMPLOYEES AND / PASSENGERS HOLDING TICKETS / ALLOWED BEYOND THE FENCE." In one photograph, the boarding ramp has been removed and plane appears to be preparing to take off.
NotesDate Note: According to the donor, these photographs represent the first commercial flight from Hartford's Brainard Airport. However, it appears that the first commercial passenger flight from Brainard Airport took place in 1927 on Colonial Air Transport. American Airlines did not begin serving Brainard Airport until somewhat later. (Finlay 11/27/2013)
