DescriptionAdvertising handout with the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, a brownstone war memorial consisting of two linked round towers and a bridge spanning the Park River, is at the left. Men, women, boys, and girls walk along paved sidewalks and in the street. A newsboy with newspapers beneath his arm runs toward the right. Two women sit in a carriage drawn by two horses. Another man rides a horse at a gallop at the right. Some women hold parasols. The grassy lawns of Bushnell Park are visible beyond the monument. The Connecticut State Capitol is on a low hill in the right background.
NotesDate Note: Hartford's Soldiers and Sailors Monument was dedicated in 1886. Kellogg & Bulkeley issued a print with this view of the arch that was extensively used for advertising purposes. This smaller trade card was probably issued at the same time. (Finlay 11/29/2013)
