DescriptionA steel truss bridge is under construction. Platforms with cranes are attached to the superstructure. There appears to be another platform with construction sheds at the base of one of the piers supporting the arches of the bridge. Cables hang from the arches. A barge is passing behind the pier. A steam tugboat is in the foreground. In the background, an iron railroad bridge crosses the Connecticut River. Part of a road, a fence, and foliage are in the foreground. The far shore of the river is in the background.
NotesSubject Note: The Arrigoni Bridge between Middletown and Portland, Connecticut was constructed between 1936 and 1938. Unlike previous bridges at Middletown, it was built as a highway bridge and today (2013) carries Routes 17 and 66 across the Connecticut River. (Finlay 12/26/2013)
