DescriptionBust-length portrait of a woman with brown hair and brown eyes. The woman is wearing a black dress with a pleated crossover bodice with gigot sleeves and a lace modesty cloth. The miniature is in a brown wooden frame that is painted black on the outer edge.
Label TextParthenia Tyler was the first wife of silversmith, William Hazen Rogers of the Connecticut silverware company, Rogers Brothers. She died at the young age of twenty nine after only having one child, Frances Rogers. Unfortunately, the child also died suddenly at the young age of three and William remarried. The miniature was owned by Frank William Rogers, son of Parthenia's husband by his second wife and was subsequently given to his son, whose widow donated it to The Connecticut Historical Society.
NotesDate Note: This miniature was probably painted between 1830 and 1831 because the subject's clothing date to the early 1830s and her life dates corroborate with this.
