DescriptionHalf-length portrait of a woman with light brown hair and blue eyes. She is wearing a sheer lace cap,lace pelerine, and a black dress with a black self-fabric collar and gigot sleeves. The miniature is in a brown case with purple silk pad and yellow silk mat.
Label TextThe subject of this miniature portrait is Sarah Howard Colt Collins. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, she married Samuel Watkinson Collins on May 5, 1824 and then moved to Collinsville, Connecticut in 1826 to support his business endeavors. Her husband was the founder of The Collins Company of Collinsville, Connecticut, a highly regarded manufacturer of axes, machetes, and other edge tools. Sarah remained in Collinsville, Connecticut until her death in 1889 at the age of eighty-seven.
