Label TextAccording to museum records, the Brown family tradition was to have miniature portraits of their sons painted for their twenty-first birthdays. Francis Brown was born in Hartford, Connecticut on 14 April 1810. This portrait was probably painted in 1831, when he was twenty-one years old. It is attributed to Thomas H. Parker, a miniature painter from New York who often painted miniatures of Connecticut residents.
NotesDate Note: According to information from the donor, in the object file, men in the Brown family usually had their portraits painted for their twenty-first birthdays. Since Francis Brown was born in 1810, this miniature portrait was probably painted in 1831. The sitter's clothing confirms this date, and the artist Thomas H.
