Reverse side of frame hhas an oval molding in center that holds a lock of light brown hair under glass. Frame is mounted in a black leather case with blue satin lining; case locks on bottom edge and can be unlocked by pushing a gold button; back of case has a folding leg for standing support, the underside of leg has a gold sticker, printed across sticker in black, "NEWMAN GALLERIES / 1732 CHESTNUT STREET / PHILADELPHIA".
Object number1958.35.1
NotesObject Note: The label attached to the back of the case states that the Newman Galleries was located on 1732 Chestnut Street; the gallery was only at this location between 1918-1935, which shows that the portrait was not placed in its current case until more than 100 years after it was painted.
