DescriptionHalf-length miniature portrait of a young girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. The girl is wearing a white sailor inspired dress with embroidery and a red beaded, double layer necklace. The ivorine support is nailed to by four small nails to a thin piece of wood with a paper covering. "Helen Sterling Brainard" is printed in blue script across the bottom of the paper.
Label TextHelen Sterling Brainard was born 6 May 1889 in Hartford, Connecticut to Leverett and Mary Jerusha (Bulkeley) Brainard. She was the youngest of ten children and died suddenly 11 November 1899 at the age of 10. This miniature portrait was probably painted at the time of her death.
