DescriptionPortrait of a young girl with short brown hair and brown eyes. She is wearing a pink off-the-shoulder dress. The miniature is in a dark brown leather-covered wooden case with gilt decoration. Both sides of the case have the "Birds and the Fountain" design.
Label TextThe subject of this miniature portrait may be Alice Maude Lovett, depicted here as a young girl. Lovett was the wife of landscape and marine artist George Herbert McCord. Though her husband maintained a permanent studio at their home in Morristown, New Jersey, the couple spent much time abroad. They lived for a few years in Venice, Italy and Paris,France and later retired to Brooklyn, New York with their daughters. This miniature portrait was obtained from McCord's descendents, who resided in Essex, Connecticut.
