DescriptionHalf-length miniature portrait of a man with brown hair and blue eyes. He is wearing a white jabot, black double breasted waistcoat, and brown jacket. The metal frame is scalloped at the edges of the image. The back of the frame has an opening, and under the glass there is a locket of braided hair. There is a piece of ivory in the middle of the braid with two palm leaves with the initials "WE" in script under them and a bird underneath the initials engraved on the ivory.
Label TextThis miniature portrait was probably painted in 1794, at the time of William Eldridge's wedding to Eliza Avery. William Eldridge was born in Groton, Connecticut in 1769. He was a fireland land comissioner who surveyed and dispensed land of the New Connecticut Western Reserve in Ohio. He owned 16,000 acres of his own land in Huron County, Ohio.
