DescriptionBust-length miniature portrait of a woman with blue eyes, pale complexion, and brown hair. She is wearing a white cap with open work, trimmed with lace and blue ribbon bows. A blue ribbon bow also ties at her neck under her chin. The woman is also wearing a white pelerine, a blue shawl which drapes over her left shoulder, and a black dress. Miniature is encased in a rectangular wooden case covered with red leather with two brass hooks and leather hinges. Inside of case is lined with white satin cushion.
Label TextThe New York portraitist Frederick R. Spencer based this miniature of an unidentified woman on a work by Anson Dickinson. Dickinson was born in Milton, Connecticut and painted many portraits of Connecticut residents, though he maintained a studio in New York City.
NotesDate Note: In object file there is an inscription on the back of the cardboard behind the ivory that says the miniature was done by Anson Dickinson in 1830. (Ozzone 3/21/2013)
