DescriptionPortrait of man with white hair, dark brown eyes. He is wearing a white stock or cravat with a black waistcoat and jacket. The miniature is in a metal frame with a loop for suspension.
Label TextJohn Lawrence was the Treasurer of the Colony and State of Connecticut for twenty years (1769-1789). During the American Revolution, he was also commissioner of loans for the United States. This miniature portrait has a striking inscription on the back of the frame honoring his service, which suggests that it was probably painted shortly after John Lawrence resigned from office in 1789.
