He is sitting with his hands folded on his knee. There is a suggestion of background scenery. The miniature is in a wooden frame, painted with gold paint.
Label TextJohn Howard Bidwell was born on 8 October 1899 and died of heart disease on 9 August 1910 in Bloomfield, Connecticut, either shortly before or shortly after this poignant portrait was completed. The miniature is attributed to the New York miniaturist, Alice Tillinghast Searle.
