DescriptionPortrait of a young boy with blue eyes and brown hair. He is wearing a white jacket with a standing collar and buttons that are center front and continue all the way to the neckline. The miniature is in a black wooden frame with gold leaf edging the portrait.
Label TextThis miniature was painted after a photograph of George Dudley Seymour at the age of ten. In a letter to his uncle, George reminisced that this miniature gave him a sense of nostalgia, reminding him of the first time he heard "Hale's Fate and Fame," a famous poem by Francis Miles Finch about Nathan Hale, whom Seymour later studied at length. George Dudley Seymour was a prominent Connecticut resident, heavily involved with the arts and historic preservation, bequeathing a large collection of objects to Connecticut Historical Society after his death in 1945.
NotesObject Note: This is miniature is one of eight that George Dudley Seymour commisioned Mildred Jordan to paint, most based on various portraits in his possession. This is of Seymour himself as a boy, and he notes that, "Miss Jordan put me in a white suit in place of the suit I wore at the time when the photograph was taken."(Lee 10/24/2014)Status
