DescriptionBust-length portrait of a young woman with blue eyes and brown hair. She is wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress, gathered at the waist and with gigot sleeves. The miniature is in a square wooden case, with red leather covering and white satin lining.
Label TextEunice Bulkeley was born in 1816 in Litchfield, Connecticut. This miniature, by renowned miniaturist Anson Dickinson, was probably made at the time of her marriage to John Ward in 1833. Dickinson was also from Connecticut; he was born in Milton, a village in the northwest corner of Litchfield, in 1779. Eunice Bulkeley Ward died in 1841, less than a decade after the miniature was painted.
