DescriptionBust-length miniature portrait of a man with blue eyes and gray hair extending down the back of his neck gathered in a queue. The man is wearing a dark navy jacket with buttons, white waistcoat, white shirt, and cravat or stock. He is facing slightly to the right. Miniature is set in metal frame with a loop for suspension.

NotesObject Note: According to museum records, the miniature of Joseph Battell was given to his wife Sarah (Robbins) Battell and worn by her in a painted portrait. The portrait is owned by the Yale University Art Gallery, and as of 2013 is on display at the Yale Summer School of Music, Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate, Norfolk, Connecticut. (Ozzone 3/1/2013)
