DescriptionMap of the town of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, with Wethersfield to the north, the Connecticut River and Glastonbury to the east, Cromwell to the south, and Berlin and Newington to the west. The Metropolitan District Commission Water Pollution Control Facility is in the northeast part of town. The Vexation Hill Water Storage Tank is in the northwest part of town. A regulated pressure area is shown in the south part of town. Other prominent features include Dinosaur State Park, Rose Hill Memorial Park, and the Veterans Hospital. A Water Service Legend at lower right provides a key to hydrants, hydrants subject fo pumped pressure, gate valves (sixteen inch main or larger), MDC water mains (less than six inches in diameter, six to twenty-three inches in diameter, and twenty-four inches or larger in diameter), and private water mains. Closed gates and check valves are also indicated. An index of Rocky Hill streets is at the right.
Label TextRocky Hill joined the Metropolitan District in 1943 and by 1998 had been a member for more than fifty years. On the whole, the regional approach to water supply in central Connecticut was successful, but balancing the needs of so many different communities presented challenges. In 1997, Rocky Hill opposed the Metropolitan District's plan to spend $1.3 million on Riverfront Recapture on the grounds that Rocky Hill taxpayers should not have to pay for parks in Hartford and East Hartford.
