NotesSubject Note: The first Preston Bridge, which crosses the Shetucket River in Norwich, Connecticut, was a toll bridge constructed by the Norwich and Preston Bridge Company in 1817. It was carried away by a spring flood in 1823, but rebuilt on the same site. In 1858, the bridge was purchased by the towns of Preston and Norwich. In 1870, the old covered bridge was replaced by a new iron bridge.On View
