DescriptionViews of the city of Norwich include First Street from the Laurel Hill Bridge, Breed Hall Corner, Broadway and Little Plain, Franklin Square, Shetucket Street, Summer Street, and Water Street. One photograph shows the ruins of the almshouse. One photographs shows the Third Regiment in Williams Park. There are numerous panoramic views of the city taken from Sunnyside, Laurel HIll, and Lanman's Hill. Other views show the harbor area and the Thames River. The steamer City of New London appears in one photograph; the steamer Ella appears in another. Some photographs include commercial buildings, including the Bank Building and the Wauregan Hotel.
Part of the John S. Craig Collection.
NotesConstituent Note: Charles A. Burnham's establishment at 174 Main Street, Norwich, Connecticut is described as a stationery store in the Norwich city directories. It therefore appears likely that he sold--and perhaps published--stereo views, but he was probably not the person who took the photographs.
