DescriptionA white center chimney house, with white clapboard siding and twelve over twelve windows with shutters has a lean-to addition at the rear. The house is surrounded by leafless trees and rail and picket fences. Some trees at the right appear to be fruit trees. A summerhouse, an arbor, and possibly a garden are at the left. Posts in the foreground may be hitching posts.
NotesArtist Note: Laurilla Smith was the daughter of Zephaniah Hollister Smith and Hannah Hadassah Hickok, and had four sisters: Hancy Zephina; Cyrinthia Sacretia; Julia Evelina; and Abby Hadassah.Subject Note: Kimberly Mansion, on Main Street, Glastonbury, Connecticut, was built in the early eighteenth century by Eleazur Kimberly. It was purchased by Zephaniah Smith in 1790 and was home to Zephaniah and Hannah Smith and their four daughters during the nineteenth century. (Finlay 12/6/2013)
