DescriptionThis girl's kilt is constructed of a single piece of green, navy blue, and red wool tartan pleated to a waistband. Each side of the kilt has a flat, unpleated section, approximately 10 inches wide, designed to overlap (right over left) at the front of the kilt. It is fastened on the inside right with a single hook and bar closure at the waistband and fastened outside left with two black leather straps with silver colored metal buckles, one at the waistband and the other at hip level. The kilt is fitted to the waistband with topstitched knife-pleats, which begin at the left hip and continue counter-clockwise around the garment to the right hip. The final pleat on the right is actually a small box pleat. The topstitched section of each pleat is approximately 6 inches long and widens slightly, so that each pleat is approximately 0.75 inches at the waist and 1 inch at the hip. Consequently, the kilt is pleated neither to stripe nor to set, and the narrower red stripe in the tartan is not visible in some places at the back. The visible open edge is finished with a narrow knife pleat that has been topstitched down its full length and fringed along the raw edge.

Inside both sides of the garment, positioned below the respective fastener, are identical loops of grey ribbon with printed blue text, which reads "MADE IN SCOTLAND" on one side of the loop and "This garment should be dry cleaned" on the other. A tag of black ribbon with woven white and red text is stitched inside the center back waistband. It reads "LAIRD-PORTCH/ OF SCOTLAND/ DRY CLEANING RECOMMENDED/ PURE NEW Wool." A small white tag, with "11" printed in black is stitched under the edge of the black tag on the left side.
