Label TextThese two maps show a critical moment in the construction of Interstate 84, when that highway ended abruptly at a concrete barrier at Ridgewood Road in West Hartford. The highway had not yet reached Farmington, and in fact the design of the Farmington interchange and the location of exit and entrance ramps in that town was still under discussion. The prominence given to bus and railroad lines in the West Hartford ramp suggests that even at this relatively late date--probably 1966--automobiles were not as all-pervasive as they would become a few decades later.
