Label TextThis modern birds-eye view of downtown Hartford by artist Philip Lohman presents a positive picture of the controversial urban renewal that transformed the city during the 1960s and 1970s. According to the accompanying text, Hartford's earlier architectural treasures, the Old State House, the Richarson Buidling on Main Street, the State Capitol, combine with new structures such as the Civic Center and the buildings of Constitution Plaza to produce "a flow of people and homes, shops and offices, monuments and spires that make a mature, lively and cohesive city."
