DescriptionBird's-eye view poster of Hartford, Connecticut, and vicinity, oriented east-west so that the Connecticut River appears at the bottom of the sheet. The poster shows mostly green space, historical sites, and businesses in Hartford, Farmington, Wethersfield, Newington, and Windsor Locks. The logos and signs of most of the businesses are reproduced. Scattered across the poster are facts about some of the buildings, the physical geography, or the area's history. On the bottom of the sheet is a textual hsitory of the founding of Hartford from 1600 - 1784.

Label TextHartford was still in the throes of urban renewal in 1974 when the Canadian firm Archar produced this "city character print," showing a green and leafy city, a harmonious mixture of the old with the new. The print provides little geographical information though it does show the highways snaking through the city and buildings are placed approximately in their correct locations. Many of the modern buildings and businesses did not survive into the twenty-first century. The map abounds in tidbits of historical information and overall provides a remarkably positive view of Hartford in the 1970s.
