DescriptionMap of the town of Haddam, Connecticut, from the town lines of Middlwtown and Chatham to the north, East Haddam to the east, Killingworth and Chester to the south, and Durham and Killingworth to the west. Haddam is divided into districts, marked with broken solid boundary lines. Roads are shown but not labeled. Buildings are depicted as solid black squares and are labeled with the name of the property owner or occupant. Natural features include elevation, conveyed through hachure marks, the Connecticut River, Pine Brook and Salmon River Cove.
Label TextHaddam is the only town in Connecticut to straddle the Connecticut River. This remains true today, with Haddam proper on the west side of the river and Haddam Neck on the east side. In 1874, Middle Haddam, also on the east side, was part of Haddam as well; it later became part of East Hampton. There was never a bridge connecting the two parts of the town, though it is likely that in years past many residents along the river would have owned boats and thus been able to cross back and forth between the two parts of town. This map was originally part of an atlas published by F. W. Beers & Co.
