DescriptionBust-length miniature portrait of a man with dark brown hair wearing a gray jacket, cravat or stock, white shirt, and black waistcoat. Metal frame is deeply molded and has a suspension loop. The square frame fits in a red leather covered case with brass hooks; the case has a green velvet pad.
Label TextJabez Williams Huntington was born in Norwich, Connecticut on 8 November 1788. He graduated Yale in 1806. Huntington went on to study under Judge Tapping Reeve and James Could at the Litchfield Law School, the first formal law school in the United States. Huntington practiced law for about 30 years in Litchfield and until his death on 1 November 1847 in Norwich.
NotesSubject Note: Manuscript document in museum object file reads "Portrait of Jabez W. Huntington of Norwich, Connecticut, painted in New York City AD. 1815 by 'Waldo & Jewett' given by him to Hezikiah Rudd (of Scotland, Windham Co.) his friend & former Roommate in Yale College, Class of 1806." This notation was written by Charles De Forest Rudd, nephew of Hezikiah Rudd.(Ozzone 2/28/2013)
