DescriptionBust-length miniature portrait of a man with dark brown hair wearing a gray jacket, cravat or stock, white shirt, and black waistcoat. Metal frame is deeply molded and has a suspension loop. The square frame fits in a red leather covered case with brass hooks; the case has a green velvet pad.
Object number1963.65.0
NotesSubject Note: Manuscript document in museum object file reads "Portrait of Jabez W. Huntington of Norwich, Connecticut, painted in New York City AD. 1815 by 'Waldo & Jewett' given by him to Hezikiah Rudd (of Scotland, Windham Co.) his friend & former Roommate in Yale College, Class of 1806." This notation was written by Charles De Forest Rudd, nephew of Hezikiah Rudd. (Ozzone 2/28/2013) Medium Note: Cases of this sort were commonly manufactured for daguerreotypes. (Ozzone 3/4/2013) Date Note: The object file and note of inscription indicates that this miniature was made in 1815, but it is unclear if that is the correct date of the miniature because Waldo & Jewett did not go into business until 1820.
