DescriptionMap of Connecticut showing the Connecticut Company's system of street railways and other electric lines, including those of the Stamford Division, that ran into New York. Steam railroad lines, steamboat lines, parks, benches and resorts are also included on the map. To the left of the map is a legend that explains the different lines and symbols. On the back cover, there is a map of the Connecticut Company's "Trolley Express" service.
Label TextIn the early 1900s , the Connecticut Company operated a vast network of trolley lines throughout Connecticut. The company started buying up local street railways beginning in 1895; by the time it took the name "Connecticut Company" in 1907, it had lines reaching far into the neighboring states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Intercity buses began to replace these trolleys as early as 1925. Hartford's last trolley ran in 1941; New Haven's last trolley ran in 1948.
